This 42,000 sf Family Life Center was an addition to accommodate the growing needs of this North Knoxville church. It consists of a multi-purpose gymnasium that serves as a basketball court, a play area, a dining hall, or a seated area for a stage. A running track is suspended around the perimeter. In addition to the gym is a reception area, game room, full service commercial kitchen, stage with dressing rooms, table/chair storage, and rest room/shower facilities. Natural light enters the gymnasium through high windows and the running track creates a “light shelf” to avoid direct glare on the court. An arcade entry and corridor provide a new main entry.

Also included in the addition are 8 classrooms that equip the church with a full-time day care facility for its membership and the surrounding community. The renovation also provided expanded offices, a library, and a choir rehearsal room.

The design concept required the addition to appear as a unified whole with the existing buildings. While it maintains a separate identity, the Family Life Center is connected to the church and provides valuable amenities to Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church.
